Corvette VS Viper
May 3rd, 2009I have seen some of the feircest debates about cars come up during a conversation about the ‘vette and the Viper. What do ypu think? Feel free to go off on a rant about every little thing you love and hate about both cars, thats what makes these threads interesting.
My Opinion:
Corvette -
The Good
- The iconic American sports car.
- Gets better every year.
- Succesful race history.
- Higher top speed than an F430.
The Bad
- Does anything scream ‘mid-life crisis’ like a Corvette Convertible?
- Mass produced, not very excusive (save for the ZR1).
- Has had some build quality issues in the past.
- They keep making it more powerful, but they don’t necesarliy upgrade the other equipment along with the added power.
Viper -
The Good
- It’ll blow your head off.
- It looks like it’ll blow your head off.
- Every new generation is pretty distinct from the last.
- Not that common.
- People don’t assume the driver is a balding real estate agent.
- Your Granpa didn’t buy one when he retired.
- Your mother in law hates it.
The Bad
- Not very refined.
- Cheap interior.
- Loud.
- Cop magnet.
- Your mother in law hates it, and she’s visiting next week.
My Conclusion:
I choose the Viper.
FYI, this forum has been dead lately; so I wouldn’t expect a lot of traffic.
I agree with your assessment on both cars. Can we drag the obvious issue of price into the picture? A good question is: which car is more unreliable? Is this car going to be a daily driver or a show boater? The mileage on the Viper is horrendous.
I think we need some parameters.
Chevrolet’s Corvette, which is celebrating its 40th anniversary, was America’s only true sports car until the recent hyped-up arrival of Dodge’s Viper.
“People are paying over sticker price for the few in the area, but next year they’ll probably pay sticker price - or below - because some 3,000 Vipers will be built,” said a salesman at South Oak Dodge in Chicago Heights, which had No. 143 this year….
I’ll take the new Viper ACR any day over a Vette. Also, the Corvette has just as cheap if not cheaper interior than the Viper. The other downside to the Vette is that they are the “me too” sports car. I see them all the time.
And I would pick a ZR1 over the ACR any day. Since I wouldn’t race it, buying that car would make no sense for me, and a stock s/c v8 making 600+ hp somehow appeals to me. Also, I think that the corvette interior is better then the viper’s now, especially with the upgrade you can buy for them.
